Fare prices fell in
April 2003 reflecting the main outbreak of SARS but then went on to
make a full recovery.
- In
January fares to Hong Kong cost £401. This increased to £532
in March but then fell by 60% to £311 in April.
This coincides with the most reported cases of SARS in Hong
Kong. The
following month prices
rose again to reach £614 in June almost double the April
fare.
Methodology - Gulf war

- For
the purpose of this analysis, the data was taken from the Electrobug
Fare Index output, flights were tracked over a
eight month period from January to August of this year. The
flights chosen were based on a seven-night stay,
booked thirty two days in advance. The figures are
based on return flights and exclude
tax. Discounters were not included in the analysis.
